In the Carmel Highlands, Corral de Tierra is now subdivided and quite off the beaten path from the beach area of Carmel. Perhaps dubbing it "Carmel" was a bit of 1940s publisher's hype, as Carmel was a popular celebrity getaway back then. Corral de Tierra lies between Salinas and the coast. The beach community of Carmel lies off the map, south of Monterey.
