Hi Suz - did you by any chance get a photo of the Bard house in Seattle? And what's the address, please? I'll be there myself this September and would love to see it.
Anne, the address is 6317 15th Avenue NE. The house is so overgrown by shrubs and trees that it was very hard to photograph, so I didn't save the two photos I took. I just took a memory picture! If you look at the Photos page on this website, you'll see a picture of the house circa 1938. You can still see the "bones" of the house as it was, but the trees are very tall now, there is a chainlink fence around the yard, and there is a bus stop right in front of the gate. Do go around the side of the house to the back and look at the rear, as well. I was really touched to find it and stand there feeling that connection for a few moments. That's really weird, I know, but it's how I felt.
Thank you so much, Suz, and for pointing out that there's an older picture right here on the site. Looking forward to going there - and, of course, to Vashon (second trip).
Anne, I may have a more recent photo, I'll check. But be careful looking around at Betty's former homes. The house on Vashon is not open to the public at all, and at least one of the homes in Seattle is in a very rough neighborhood. A trip to Vashon - even though you can't see Betty's house - is SOOO worth it. You can stay at the B & B that used to be Betty & Don's barn! It's a lovely place, hardly seems possible it once was a barn. I'll find those photos and post them or email you. When do you arrive in Seattle?
