I am co-producer of a book reading program on Spokane Public Radio KPBX. I would love to broadcast The Egg and I on the program, but I need permission from the copyright holder, perhaps the Estate. This is such a great book, and I would love to bring it to our listeners. Can someone help me?

I think Anne Canham Evans, Betty's eldest daughter, would be the person from whom to seek permission, or possibly someone from Lippincott could help you. It would be wonderful if you could have Egg read to the public; it's a treasure.

I think I made an error. I think it's Anne Evans Canham.

I agree with Suz, you should contact the family for their permission.

John, where have you been? I've missed your expertise and your good sense. I was rereading an issue of The Egg Crate last night, the one you and Debbi did about Bob Heskett. It was so well done and I enjoyed reading it again. I hope your schooling is going well.

Hi Suz, I have been away due to some health issues thaat I have been having. Back in NOV of 2012 I had a quadruple bipass. I am beginning to feel much better these past 8 months. Now that I am feeling better I hope to get started on a much over due newsletter. I have really missed everyone.

I'm sorry you've had health problems. A quadruple bypass is a genuinely big deal. I have a family member who had one thirty-four years ago. He's 80 now and still going strong.

The Egg and I is on the coffee table again. My husband asked me how many times I've read that book. I had to think about it. No idea, really. I read it first when I was about thirteen and more than forty years later, it's still one of my all-time favorites. It's one of those books which you appreciate more as you become more familiar with it. Betty's command of language, her flair for painting word pictures, and her humor still delight me. Given that her maiden name was Bard, I have to wonder: back in the Middle Ages, was there an actual bard who passed his particular talent (were there female bards?) down through the ages to that American-born child of the future?
